In another blogosphere, I have written several posts about the nation of Burma (Myanmar). I became quite invested in their political plight and the online organizations who try to get the stories of the people, the protesters, the persecuted, out to the rest of the world. So invested, my husband and I have adopted a native missionary in Myanmar through Gospel for Asia. Quite frankly, I fell in love with their beautiful faces, traditions and children.

Now, we have this horrendous news spilling out all over the internet about the fierce destruction they are suffering from Cyclone Nargis.

The ruling military junta must now make up its mind about allowing a full-throttle relief effort.

First Lady Laura Bush has also taken the nation to heart. On more than one occasion, she has come out and championed their efforts for freedom. On Monday, she issued a statement to the press in her first-ever appearance in the White House briefing room about the devastation in Myanmar.

This is just one of the reasons I admire her. It is now also a means of identifying with her.

Please read about the people, study the complexities and traditional civilization. Make sure you take a journey into the tribal regions to see the beautiful Karen people. Have you ever seen the women in National Geographic who wear the coiled necklaces so long they actually elongate their necks in what to our eyes seems extreme, but to them graceful? They are among the persecuted.

My heart, my tears, my prayers are for them now. Even while I know that the Lord sees, cares more. That His purposes in this event will be inviolate. That darkness cannot overcome Light, and in His economy of grace, if we discipline our hearts in prayer, there will be ample opportunity for dispelling that darkness.
